It’s happening. I mean, it is REALLY happening. Keighty made it through training camp and is officially launching on the World Race on June 28!
This has been quite the journey.
Keighty applied for the race in October 2013. If things had gone as planned, she would already be home. But they didn’t. They never do. Even though our family has been walking alongside Keighty’s World Race for well over a year, I discovered something quite surprising while she was at training camp.
Keighty isn’t the only one going on the World Race. I am going too, and so is the rest of the family.
Well, I’m not exactly going. I’m staying. But this race- this World Race- is bigger than I realized.
When God called Keighty to go on the race, He also called John and I to become World Race Parents. I don’t know why this surprised me. The things God calls John and I to do, he also calls our children to learn and grow from. He uses every circumstance we walk through to change us, to draw us closer to Him, to conform us into the image of His Son. Why would the World Race be any different?
I am learning that the World Race is for and about parents too. We just didn’t volunteer for the assignment. Our kids did. So, ready or not, I am going on the World Race.
I’m scared. I’m excited. I’m eager. I’m hesitant. I have no idea what this is going to look like. I am confident it will be messy and beautiful. And I want to bring you with me.
How will that happen? Through this blog, of course! Specifically, it will happen through an ongoing series called Lessons From the Home Front | Parenting Adult Children Living On Mission.
These posts are not limited to the World Race- although I am certain during this season of my life the race will be their primary focus. You see, I have three adult children living on mission. Each of their journeys affects me. They call me to a deeper walk with Christ. They challenge me and stretch me. They also present unique challenges I must learn to navigate. These are the things I will write about.
If you are a World Race parent, Welcome! I hope this is a place where we can share our experiences and grow together.
If you are a future World Race parent, Welcome! I hope this is a place where you can begin to discover the path marked out for you.
If the World Race isn’t a part of your family’s story, Welcome! I hope you this is a place where you find transferable principles that help you in your journey as a parent.
Thank you for allowing me to pack you in my bag. It is going to be an adventure! Are you ready? Leave a comment and share your role as an adult parent.
